ICH Courier is the quarterly magazine on ICH in the Asia-Pacific region issued by ICHCAP since 2009. Every issue has its own theme under the title of the Windows to ICH, and the theme of the Vol 40 is 'Rites of Passage, a Journey to Adulthood.'

ICHCAP, in collaboration with UNESCO Bangkok Office, held the Intangible Cultural Heritage Webinar Series from June to August 2020 with a total of four sessions. Beginning with the first session discussing the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) during COVID-19, the 23 speakers from 18 countries met with the public to grapple with alternative practices and emergent modes of delivery in various areas such as heritage education in the universities, networking amongst educational institutions for ICH safeguarding, development of ICH curricula in times of crisis, as well as inter-regional cooperation for cross-cultural instruction and learning.\n\nThis collection includes the programs and presentations of all the four sessions of the ICH Webinar Series.

This publication of the guide book on intangible cultural heritage of the Philippines is the precious result of the enthusiastic efforts made by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) to reconfirm and restore the national treasure of the long protected traditional culture, which have been alienated and marginalized during the colonial period of many centuries. This guide book has been edited to understand holistically the entire aspects of living heritage, the five domains defined by the Convention, and emphasize the importance of the communities practicing and transmitting them.

ICHCAP is unveiling a new online exhibition to promote the understanding of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) via an easily accessed online platform. We collaborated with ICH experts from the Pacific islands to curate seven exhibitions on Pacific cultural practices, including traditional knowledge, social rituals, and crafts. You can explore the Pacific islanders’ stories and culture online at the Google Cultural Institute under the title “ICHCAP Collection.” We hope the exhibitions will inspire others to get to know about Pacific ICH.\n\nIn this booklet, we showcase a small part of the exhibitions, covering\n\n- Traditional Fire Walking in Fiji\n- Palau’s Rich Heritage in Nature and Culture\n- Safeguarding ICH of Papua New Guinea Bilum\n- Ngatu, Culture Wealth of the Kingdom of Tonga\n- Inspired Crafts of Samoa\n- Pwo Ceremony, the Initiation Ritual for Traditional Wayfinding Systems\n- Yam Festivals in the Pacific

The book describes different elements of Bhutanese intangible culture under five chapters. Learning, studying, promoting and transmitting the Bhutanese culture, and its essence — the intangible cultural heritage — is a sublime obligation for each and every Bhutanese today. This book will not only serve as a basic manual for the study of the ICH of Bhutan for the future generations, but also inspire them to renew and share their awareness of (and engagement in) the research of our culture and traditions.

Organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Mongolia, the Mongolian National Commission for UNESCO, the UNESCO Beijing Office, and ICHCAP and hosted by the Cultural Heritage Centre, Mongolia, the Seminar on Cooperation towards Strengthening Networking and Information Sharing of ICH in Northeast Asia took place from 29 June to 3 July 2014 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Representatives from Mongolia, Republic of China, Japan, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, and the Republic of Korea participated in this historic event. For the first time, all five countries of the Northeast Asian region met in a single venue to discuss common issues and tasks related to safeguarding and promoting ICH in the subregion. Facilitating Documentation of Living Heritage and Information Exchange for ICH Safeguarding in Northeast Asia is a collection of the meeting paper presentations also included are photographs and a description of how to move forward within the subregion.\n\nNote: The articles are in English, but some are supplemented with information in Chinese or Korean.

This meeting shares current situation and experiences related to ICH information in each country, such as subjects handling ICH information, relevant policies or institutions, infrastructure, scope and volume of information held. In addition, plans or necessary actions to create appropriate information base are presented by each country.

“ICH and Gender” introduces the mutual relationship between gender norms and ICH and emphasizes that understanding the intimacy between ICH and gender is important for effective ICH safeguarding and gender equality.\n\n

ICHCAP published Intangible Cultural Heritage of Kyrgyzstan as part of its ICH and Society series. The newest volume introduces various intangible heritage elements of Kyrgyzstan. It is the eighth book in the series and is the result of a two-year joint project between ICHCAP and the National Commission of the Kyrgyz Republic for UNESCO from 2018 to 2019 to encourage the awareness of Kyrgyzstan’s intangible heritage.\n\nKyrgyzstan’s intangible heritage once faced a cultural disruption crisis during the Soviet system. However, consciousness of the crisis and many efforts to safeguarding ICH in Kyrgyzstan has helped keep many elements alive.\n\nThis book consists of six themes, including traditional crafts, rituals, oral traditions and traditional foods and introduces their cultural roots and identity by explaining around a hundred Kyrgyz ICH elements such as horse breeding, pasture management, rites of passage.

We collaborated with ICH experts to curate five exhibitions on South Asian cultural practices such as traditional knowledge, social rituals, and crafts. You can explore representative artifacts of South Asian culture online at Google Cultural Institute under the title of ICHCAP collection. We hope the exhibitions will inspire you to actively and widely explore ICH.

ICHCAP, with the support of the Cultural Heritage Administration of Korea and the cooperation of the Fiji National Museum and Yap State Historic Preservation Office of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), hosted the four-day Pacific-ICHCAP Cooperative Workshop on Digitizing ICH-Related Audio-Visual Materials in various locations in Jeonju and Seoul. The workshop was organized to explore methods and technologies involved with digitizing analogue audiovisual resources related to intangible cultural heritage, with emphasis on Pacific art and traditions so that it can be approached and enjoyed around the world.\n\nThis publication includes the nine paper presentations as well as transcripts of the speeches and information related to the field visits.
