ICH Courier Vol.45 Oral Tradition of The Asia-Pacific Communities
Oral tradition consists of diverse narratives. It is passed on by word of mouth as everyday wisdom and transmitted through the generations. After that, it becomes infused in a region’s history, philosophy, and way of life, thus forming the foundation for a community’s knowledge systems. This volume introduces traditional tales in Sri Lanka, Palau, Kyrgyzstan, and Vietnam.

Teaching and learning with and about intangible cultural heritage in Asia and the Pacific: survey report
UNESCO has officially published a report on a survey on the use of “living heritage” in school education in the Asia-Pacific region. The report was a result of a survey conducted jointly by the UNESCO Bangkok Office and ICHCAP in 2019, sponsored by the Cultural Heritage Administration of Korea, and was written based on 777 responses from 170 schools in 21 countries in the Asia-Pacific region.\n\n

Handbook on ICH Safeguarding Systems in the Asia-Pacific Region
ICHCAP is pleased to announce the publication of the Handbook on ICH Safeguarding system in the Asia-Pacific, which aims to facilitate information sharing in the Asia-Pacific region.\n\nThe main contents of this publication are reports from thirty-two nations collected by ICHCAP from 2009 to 2015 as part of its annual projects to collect information on intangible cultural heritage safeguarding in the Asia-Pacific region. We have also compiled information from other reports and conference materials collected by ICHCAP to present key data, such as national inventories and information on related organizations, in an easily accessible format.

Diversity and Commonality of Shaman Heritage in Asia—Current Safeguarding Status and Challenges of Asian Shaman Heritage
In November 2013, Jindo County hosted a symposium on shaman heritage and public events. Organized by ICHCAP and the World Ethnic Dance Institute with the support of the Cultural Heritage Administration of Korea, the participants from Northeast Asia, South Asia, and Southeast Asia explored measures through which shaman cultural heritage can be safeguarded with international cooperation. Diversity and Commonality of Shaman Heritage in Asia—Current Safeguarding Status and Challenges of Asian Shaman Heritage is a dual-language publication with the meeting’s discussion and presentation papers available in both English and Korean.

2016 Sub-Regional Meeting for ICH Safeguarding in Northeast Asia
The 2016 Sub-Regional Meeting for Intangible Cultural Heritage Safeguarding in Northeast Asia: The Role of the Media in Raising Awareness about Intangible Cultural Heritage, jointly organized by ICHCAP and the UNESCO Beijing Office and hosted by the Mongolian National Commission for UNESCO, was held on 10 and 11 October 2016 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.\n\nThis report is composed of country reports and case studies discussed at the meeting and generated participation from five Northeast Asian Member States—namely DPRK, Japan, Mongolia, China, and ROK—and international experts from the Asia Broadcasting Union. In addition, a recommended action document was prepared by the country representatives and experts.

Contribution of Intangible Cultural Heritage to Sustainable Development in South Asia
ICHCAP published a book in collaboration with banglanatak dot com, an UNESCO accredited NGO, about ICH NGOs’ contribution to sustainable development. The 29 NGOs’ story showcase us how intangible cultural heritage can drive, enable, and guarantee achieving SDGs along each of its three dimensions –the economic, social, and environment-underpinned by peace and security as fundamental prerequisites for sustainable development.\n\n
