ICHCAP, with the support of the Cultural Heritage Administration of Korea and the cooperation of the Fiji National Museum and Yap State Historic Preservation Office of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), hosted the four-day Pacific-ICHCAP Cooperative Workshop on Digitizing ICH-Related Audio-Visual Materials in various locations in Jeonju and Seoul. The workshop was organized to explore methods and technologies involved with digitizing analogue audiovisual resources related to intangible cultural heritage, with emphasis on Pacific art and traditions so that it can be approached and enjoyed around the world.\n\nThis publication includes the nine paper presentations as well as transcripts of the speeches and information related to the field visits.

The 2017 Sub-Regional Meeting for ICH Safeguarding in the Pacific dubbed as “Youth as Safeguarding Actors for Pacific ICH” was held on 25 to 27 April 2017 in Koror, Palau. It was jointly organized by ICHCAP and the Bureau of Cultural and Historical Preservation (BCHP) under the Ministry of Community and Cultural Affairs of Palau.\n\nThis report is composed of country reports, case studies, and thematic presentations delivered at the meeting by four national representatives of Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Palau, and Tonga, and international experts from organizations related to ICH and Youth in the Pacific. In addition, the outcome document of the sub-regional meeting is also affixed to put it on record the adopted recommendations of the participants in moving forward together.

UNESCO has officially published a report on a survey on the use of “living heritage” in school education in the Asia-Pacific region. The report was a result of a survey conducted jointly by the UNESCO Bangkok Office and ICHCAP in 2019, sponsored by the Cultural Heritage Administration of Korea, and was written based on 777 responses from 170 schools in 21 countries in the Asia-Pacific region.\n\n

ICHCAP is pleased to announce the publication of the Handbook on ICH Safeguarding system in the Asia-Pacific, which aims to facilitate information sharing in the Asia-Pacific region.\n\nThe main contents of this publication are reports from thirty-two nations collected by ICHCAP from 2009 to 2015 as part of its annual projects to collect information on intangible cultural heritage safeguarding in the Asia-Pacific region. We have also compiled information from other reports and conference materials collected by ICHCAP to present key data, such as national inventories and information on related organizations, in an easily accessible format.

Thanks to food storage technology transmitted as a form of traditional knowledge, we can maintain healthy lives. Traditional knowledge of preserving food for a long time allows people to continue their lives even in harsh environments where food is scarce. The implementation of the Mongolia?ICHCAP Joint Project of “ICH Documentation Workshop and Pilot Filming” in Mongolia has been carried out from May to August, in 2013, with collaborative efforts of UNESCO Accredited NGO in Mongolia ? Foundation for the Protection of Natural and Cultural Heritage (FPNCH) and International Information and Networking Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Asia-Pacific Region (ICHCAP).\n\nThis Joint Project has been initiated with regards to the i) lack of capacity in Mongolia in the professional experiences and expertise of ICH audio-visual documentation and production of films and documentaries utilizing the latest technologies and methodologies, and involvement of documentation experts and ICH experts to work together, and ii) based on the results of and the continuation of the joint efforts to safeguard the intangible cultural heritage, efforts which took place between 2009 and 2012, with aims to improve the legal system to safeguard ICH, to safeguard, restore and digitalize the ICH using modern technologies.\n\nThe ICH Documentation Workshop and Pilot filming exercises aimed at:\n\n- to conduct a Workshop with regards to share experiences and information on ICH Safeguarding through ICH documentation and dissemination in Mongolia and Korea;\n- to improve capacity of Mongolia, its personnel by applying the professional methodologies and techniques discussed through the Workshop meeting and Pilot filming;\n- to practice the Mongolian and Korean collaborative Pilot filming exercises; and\n- to gain expertise and strengthen capacity building at a practical level for ICH documentation in Mongolia, and to identify future challenges and collaboration.

This publication contains papers from the 2021 World Intangible Cultural Heritage Forum held online for three days, from September 29 to October 1, 2021. The event was hosted by the National Intangible Heritage Center and organized by ICHCAP.\n\nThe forum was held under the theme of “Rediscovering Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Era of Convergence and Creativity” to re-examine the creative value of intangible cultural heritage and present the possibilities by examining examples of innovation and value creation through intangible cultural heritage.
