Protection of Intellectual Property Rights for the ICH Practitioners"The Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (‘ICH Convention’ or ‘Convention’ hereafter) was adopted in 2003 and subsequently brought into force in 2006. The ICH Convention mandates signatories to use or mobilise various measures to safeguard intangible cultural heritage. \nEven though the Convention does not succinctly mention the elaborate legal measures for safeguarding intangible cultural heritage, the intellectual property rights to protect intangible cultural heritage and its holders are implied throughout provisions of the Convention. To implement the Convention’s spirit, the Operational Directives clarify legal form as safeguarding measures by stating that: State Parties shall endeavor to ensure, in particular through the application of intellectual property rights, privacy rights and any other appropriate form of legal protection, that the rights of the communities, groups, and individuals that create, bear and transmit their intangible cultural heritage are duly protected…."Year2012NationSouth Korea

Maintenance of Cultural Identity in a Shared Context: Kırkpınar Traditional Oil WrestlingWrestling is an intense struggle between two people based on strength, endurance, and patience. In addition to power and physical capacity, this contest also requires mental strength and control of the body with the mind. Wrestling has some characteristics that reflect people’s physical struggle with nature under various circumstances. As a consequence of these two complementary aspects, this activity has long been part of relations, competitions, and some kinds of claims of superiority among human beings. Wrestling, for all these reasons, is one of the oldest sports in the history of humanity. At the same time, this means that rich traditions, rituals, and practices have formed and evolved around wrestling in different parts of the world. Therefore, it is possible to say that this sport, in a way, represents one of the aspects of the cultural accumulation of humanity, the knowledge, practices, and rituals transmitted from one generation to the next. This fact also leads us to think of the regional, national, and local forms of wrestling that may be regarded in the context of diversity of cultural expressions. Within this perspective and the focus of this paper, traditional oil wrestling embodies a living heritage with various cultural characteristics. Voices of the Wind: Celebrating Traditional Musicians of LaosLaos is host to a diversity of cultures, traditions, and arts. While the handicraft heritage of the country, such as textile production, is widely promoted, documented, and commercialized, its rich musical traditions remain largely unknown and underestimated. The same could be said of its built heritage – much work and funding has gone into stabilizing or renovating architecture and buildings, particularly religious sites of national importance. Intangible cultural traditions, such as how to sing traditional songs, how to make instruments, and how to play certain instruments, are being left by the wayside. Due to its specific topography and the variety of ethnic groups inhabiting Laos, the country hosts an impressive diversity of musical styles. Singing is the most common form of musical expression in Laos. Traditional popular songs are called “khap” in the north and “lam” in the south. Traditional singing of Laos (khap-lam) is also used as symbol of ethnic identity, as each group has its own melodic model or musical style. While a rich knowledge exists about music, it is rarely explicitly verbalized, as most musical practices are implicitly learned through processes of listening/observation and imitation. The Popular Reaction to COVID-19 from the Intangible Cultural Heritage among Member Cities of the ICCNICCN, Interurban Cooperation Network for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, is an international organization of local governments and cultural institutions which includes 31 states, 29 cities and 34 associations. Its main objective is the protection of the intangible cultural heritage around the world and the promotion of sustainable local development. Moreover, it also seeks to achieve cultural peace through mutual understanding and intercultural dialogue between the different populations that are part of it. Various Types of Malay Traditional Boats in the East Coast of Malay Peninsula and Symbolism in Boat CraftingThe culture in the East Coast of Malay Peninsula are rich in visual and performing arts inherited over time immemorial. The art is also found to have similarities in three different states, despite their geographical gap. The similarities are shared in dialects, languages, presentations, builds, and past legacy artifacts. The Malay craftsmanship is also dominated by the Malay community in the East Coast and it is also produced in the form of art and fashion. Artifacts such as boats, houses, and furniture are still visible until now and they have high artistic value. This paper is aimed at displaying the various type of Malay traditional boats and symbols produced by the Malay community on the craft of the boat. There are several name of the boats produced by local craftsmen based on their function and usability. For example, a small line boat is used in river and coastal areas, the payang boat used by deep-sea fishermen, and the jokong boat is used to transport heavy goods. The art can be seen in the carvings and paintings produced on traditional Malay boats craftsmen in the East Coast. This art does not only serve as an ornament and for its aesthetics, but also has its own symbolism. The decorative art produced shows that the three main aspects necessary in Malay art are function, aesthetics, and ethics. The belief in the existence of supernatural powers – which preserve and safeguard their safety at sea and their ability to get income from marine products – underpins the craft of this decoration art.Year2018NationSouth Korea

Safeguarding the Furruco and the Cirrampla of Casanare, ColombiaColombian cultural diversity is marked by its triethnic influence from European, indigenous, and African traditions, added to a strong regional division due to the geographical differences throughout its territory. One of those regions is found on the eastern side, called Llanos Orientales(eastern plains), whose traditions are also shared with Venezuela, with four main departments: Arauca, Casanare, Meta, and Vichada. The llano folklore is undoubtedly the main element that culturally identifies the Casanare department, and from this phenomenon is where the idiosyncrasy and feelings of the llanero people come. \n\nHowever, as is the case with all cultural phenomenon, it is not static and immutable. It is on the other hand, variable and mutable. Thus through time and from different economic, political, geographical, and religious circumstances, among others, the musical traditions have been presenting a series of changes and transformations that have been visible in each period of the region's history. In this historical process, specific stages can be identified where some musical instruments are presented as the soul of the llanos musical tradition, reaching what we commercially know today as the Llanero ensemble, namely: harp, cuatro, maracas, and bass. TRADITIONAL MARITIME SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE OF SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENTS IN INLE LAKEThe Inle Lake is the second largest freshwater shallows in Myanmar, located on the western edge of the Shan Plateau of the eastern part of the country. The estimated surface area is 44.9 square miles and the highest elevation is 2900 feet (880m). Inle Lake is a major tourist destination in Myanmar, attracting tourists by the picturesque beauty of the lake surrounded by mountains, houses standing on poles in the \nlake, beautiful floating gardens, and the cultural practices of the Intha fishermen. The main ethnic people of Inle Lake are Inthan while Pa Oh, Taungyo, Kayan, and Shan people also add to its diversity. \n\nThe people who live in Inle Lake are called Intha (people of lake). They live on the shore and on the lake, making a living by fishing, engaging in handicraft activities, cultivating on floating gardens as well as on \nthe delta of the lake. For transportation, the Intha people use wooden boats; for long trip they use long tail boats with engines, carrying local passengers and goods. Small boats are used for their daily activities.\n\nThe main economy of Inle depends on cultivation and fishing. The unique style of the Intha people is rowing the boat with one leg by standing. They paddle this way because reeds and water plants are many \nin the lake, and if they row sitting down on the boat they could not see reeds and water plants.
