DRAMETSE NGACHAM: THE SACRED MASK DANCEThe Dance of the Drums of Drametse, also known as Drametse Ngacham, is a popular mask dance performed throughout Bhutan. It was first introduced in the sixteenth century by Khedup Kuenga Wangpo, son of Terton Pema Lingpa. It is a unique Bhutanese cultural expression and reflects the cultural and spiritual identity of Bhutan. Until the late nineteenth century, the dance remained confined to the Drametse community under the patronage of Thegchog Ogyen Namdroel Choeling. Later it was introduced to other parts of the country. Today, Drametse Nagacham is performed in almost all local festivals and celebrations. Enrich, Include, and Empower: Living HeritageEnrichment, inclusion and empowerment. Why these concepts and why in that order? Are they, next to “sustainable development” of course, the key concepts for the 2020s in heritage policy and practice? Do these concepts already appear in the universe of the Blue Book, the nickname of the Basic Texts of the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage 2018 Edition? This set of texts includes among others the 2003 UNESCO Convention text itself, the most recent version of the Operational Directives (ODs) approved by the General Assembly, the 12 Ethical Principles and the new Overall Results (Based) Framework/ORF (2018).1)\nThe word “empowerment” cannot yet be found but the verb “empower” is used twice: OD130 and OD133. These goddesses are often associated with nature or aspects of family and life. Samsin is a grandmother goddess who gives life to babies. Known as Samsin Halmeoni (Samsin grandmother), she protects the mother and newborn during the birthing process and while growing up. Youngdeung Halmeoni (Youngdeung grandmother), the goddess of wind, is a capricious goddess who reflects the stereotypical character of a mother-in-law who torments her daughter-in-law. Lucha Leonesa (Leonese Wrestling)"Leonese wrestling, aluches or luches, is a traditional wrestling style practiced in the province of León (Autonomous Community of Castile and León, Spain). With an area of 6,016 square miles (15,581 km2) and a population of around 460,000, León is located in the northwest interior of the country and has a great diversity of landscapes. This includes the Cantabrian Mountains, the Galician Massif, the lowland of El Bierzo, and a plateau or Meseta Central. It was part of the Kingdom of León (910–1230), where in 1188 the first parliamentary system in Europe was established (UNESCO, 2013). Two main, historical paths cross the province, the Ruta de la Plata (Silver Way), from north to south, and the Camino de Santiago – Camino Francés (Way of St. James – French Way), from east to west. These pilgrimage and trade routes were important elements for the transmission of cultural practices, ideas, or artifacts, from which Leonese culture benefited.\nLeonese wrestling, in particular, is rooted in the northeast of the province. It includes two mountainous areas (Central Mountain and Eastern Mountain, both part of the Cantabrian Mountains) and the adjacent flat lands, comprising several districts and the provincial capital—the city of León. In total, this represents approximately 35% of the territory of the province. Practices related to the Việt beliefs in the Mother Goddesses of Three RealmsIf beliefs in fertility associated with aspiration of reproduction remains as a cultural sediment; beliefs in ancestor worship exist in various forms not only in the Việt communities but also in the lives of many ethnic groups; beliefs in village titulary worship make communal houses to become special space for religious activities; then beliefs in the Mother Goddesses has not only spread widely, but also formed large worship centers exceeding a village’s and a commune’s space. In other words, the development of beliefs in the Mother Goddesses is a spatial expansion from the North to the South, from coastal region across the delta to the mountains; from remote areas to urban centers in Viet Nam. Traditional Food Production and Management in the Coastal Zone of BangladeshThe coastline of Bangladesh spreads over 711 kilometers containing a wide network of river systems that drain the Ganges-BrahmaputraMeghna river system's massive flow. The coastline is separated into a\npacific-type deltaic eastern zone, a central deltaic zone, and an Atlantictype deltaic western zone (M. R. Islam 2004). The Encyclopedia of Flora and Fauna of Bangladesh (Volumes 3 and 4), released in 2008, listed 156 species in the coastal zone of Bangladesh, including brown algae, red algae, green algae and five different seagrass species (Kamal and Short 2009). In terms of faunal resources, the maritime environment\nof Bangladesh has 442 fish species and 36 shrimp species (Ben Belton, et al. 2011). \n\nAround fifty million people from various ethnic groups reside in the coastline zone, encompassing thirty-two percent of the country's total population. Although the Banglaees are the most populous ethnic group, ten other ethnic communities live along the coastal zone of the country: Chakma, Khyang, Marma, Munda, Murang, Rakhine, Tanchangya, Tripura, Mahato, and Pundra Khatrio (Kamal, et al. 2001). The distinctive water-land-forest ecosystem of this area has significantly shaped food production and consumption patterns among these communities throughout history. \n\nThe coastal inhabitants are exposed to both climatic, natural disasters and manmade hazards.
