Digital Data Establishment of Cultural Heritage in the Republic of KoreaThe Cultural Heritage Administration of Korea (CHA) is a governmental organization that plans and implements cultural heritage policy in the Republic of Korea. CHA has Director of ICT management in charge of plan and implementation of master plans for digitalization and information of cultural heritage and database construction and management of archival information about preservation and management of cultural heritage. This report introduces two main projects that are part of CHA’s digital data construction of cultural heritage: the “3D Database Construction of Cultural Heritage” and the “Seoul City Wall Time Machine”. Establishment of 3D Database of Cultural Heritage CHA has used cutting-edge digital technologies to document original forms of cultural heritage and their changes in order to obtain and use raw data for restoration of cultural heritage that is destroyed or damaged. CREATING LAWS AND DOCUMENTING UZBEK TRADITIONSAfter gaining independence and under the initiative of the president, Uzbekistan commenced on a large-scale project to revitalize historic cultural heritage, both tangible and intangible. These efforts resulted in the restoration of hundreds of historic sites, and they created better conditions to research, safeguard, and propagate folk arts, knowledge, and skills of traditional craftsmanship, which were traditionally transmitted by word of mouth, from master to apprentices. In 1995 the government of the Republic of Uzbekistan adopted a law that grants taxation immunity to crafts-men working individually. THE TRADITIONAL FIJIAN BUREThere were once three traditional house- construction styles in Fiji. The first, rausina, was common in the hinterland tribes of mainland Vitilevu. Its prominent feature was its single-ridge pole that gave the roof a conical shape. The second, kubulolo, was common in the outer islands of the Lau group. Its prominent feature was its oval shape, which is a typical feature in Polynesian Tonga and Samoa, two islands renowned for their trade with the Lau islands. Concept of Humanity in Shamanism and Its Cultural ValueThe shamanism heritage is not a tangible cultural asset preserved in the halls of a museumor a recording that can be viewed repeatedly as a still or moving image. It is true that tangible assets as subjects of observation are also part of the shamanism heritage, the essence of shamanism is a complex and real cultural asset experienced through rituals performed in the real world occupied by people living in a specific time and space. In fact, the tangible and intangible is impossible to differentiate when in comes to cultural assets of shamanism. THE MARITIME CULTURE OF THE SULAWESI ISLANDS: VOICING CULTURE AFTER NATUREIn the context of maritime realm, when people hear about Sulawesi Islands, they might directly think of Coral Triangle Ecoregions (CTE). This is because since the declaration of Coral Triangle Initiative, a multilateral cooperation of six nations (Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, the Philippines, Timor Leste and Solomon Islands) to save guarding the productivity and sustainability of the Coral Triangle Ecoregions in 2009, these regions have attracted worldwide attention on its coral reef and associated ecosystem bio-diversity. Sulawesi Islands sit at the center of the regions (Figure 1). As the name implies, CORAL Triangle ECOREGIONS, people’s focus of attention is coral reef and associated ecosystems. Or, to put it in different words, the focus of attention is the natural ecosystem. Thus, the mainstream narratives about CTE is about bio-diversity, conservation and the ecosystem services to human being (see for example The Nature Conservancy 2008, CTI brochure). \n\nNonetheless, there is a serious concern on the sustainability of the regions. International institutions such as the World Ocean Council notes ‘as a global center for marine biodiversity, the CT is a major conservation priority. The CT’s environmental diversity and economic value are threatened by climate change, urbanization, overfishing, and other impacts. With these threats affecting six countries in the region, leaders created the Coral Triangle Initiative (CTI).
