Ancestral worship ritual of the Lô Lô
Held annually on the 14th of July at the home of the patriarchs. When someone in the family has died for 3-4 years, the eldest son will build an altar and a tablet. The altar is close to the nave wall, opposite the main door, there are wooden figures, which are plugged or installed in the wall above the altar to represent the ancestors' souls. The offerings must include: 1 cow, 1 pig, 1 chicken, sticky rice, wine, gold coins, oil lamps, and bronze drums.\nThey invite priests and borrow bronze drums to perform the ceremony and ask people to dress up as forest people (Ma Co-Gà Lu Ngang) to dance the ritual. The worshiping ceremony has 3 main parts: Sacrifice Ceremony, Memorial Ceremony and Ancestor Farewell Ceremony.

Yak-lai (Propitiation of Yak god)
A Bonkar (refined Bon religion that doesn’t involve animal sacrificial offering) traditional rite, Yak-lai is performed in some villages in Ura and Tang Gewogs (blocks) who owns la-nor (highland cattle) esp. Yaks. Colloquially, Yak-lai means ‘yak deity’ and if translated in Dzongkha (national tongue) it is called Yak Lha. However, the ritual is not strictly practiced by the Yak owners but, those households who owns tha-nor (normal cattle) also propitiate the god for prosperity of their livestock. The rite specifically invokes the yak deity Lha Wodue Gongjan, who is considered one of the principal deities of Bon who is believed the ultimate source of any blessings possesses supreme ability to fulfill the desires of worldly beings. Residents of Bumthang who have highland cattle, or otherwise practice animal husbandry take part in the three-day Yak-lai ritual every year.

Held from the 10th through the 15th days of the second lunar month, main foci of this festival are paying tribute to Guru Rinpoche and the performance of ritual prayers dedicated to Tshepamed (Buddha of Long Life) and local protective deities on the 10th and the 11th days. Events take place in community temples and are presided over by lamas and monks, and/or locally-based gomchens (Leymen). \n\nOn the 12th to 15th days, games and sports are organized, especially archery and Khuru (Traditional dart) are played. At night, the Blessing Round or Changkor (Wandering) takes place as a presiding lama or monk leads a group to visit every household in their respective villages and bless them with auspiciousness. The community members drink, sing and dance, and relish good foods during the period. The festival is not only meant to pay tribute to Guru Rinpoche and the protective deities but is also an occasion for community members to get together to relax away from the usual toils of agrarian life.

Shawa Sha-khe/che Chham (The Dance of the Stag and Hounds)
Shawa Sha-khe/che Chham (The dance of the Stag and the Hounds), or also called Acho Phen-to (the hunter and the servant), is one of the mask dances that fall into the category of Nam-thar zhi-chol gi gar-chham (biography-based mask dances) of the three major classifications of mask dances in Bhutan. This mask dance has the character of a play taken from the life story of Milarepa (1052-1135), and contains various characters and episodes that essentially convey the Buddhist principles of compassion, emerging faith, and human values leading to a harmonious life.

Ginani - Crop harvesting festival preparations by Burusho of Hunza
I come from a small village called Danyore. It lies across the river Gilgit in the outskirts of the regional Capital of Gilgit-Baltistan. My forefathers migrated to Danyor from Ali Abad Hunza and we are ethnically known as Burusho of Hunza.\nI feel very happy to share some aspects of our intangible heritage through photos I took on different occasions. I do not have all the photos with me as I live in Islamabad these days because I work at Lok Virsa, which works towards preservation, documentation and promotion of both tangible and intangible heritage of Pakistan.\nI am very glad I am sharing whatever photo collection I have. I will share photo about a spring festival we celebrate in Hunza and birth rituals.\nHunza is a mountainous valley located in Gilgit Baltistan region of Pakistan. It is situated in extreme Northern part of Pakistan that borders China.\nPhotos shared are showing festival of Ginani and facial care give to new born.\nGinani is annual crop harvesting festival celebrated in valleys of Hunza and Nagar. General date being 21 June, that coincides with the longest day of the year.\nBaby's facial hair are removed with wheat dough and later a mask of a stone powder made with mothers milk is applied on baby's face. It is believed babies grow to have a glowing skin and less facial hair. Facial hair are usually removed between second week of birth until first few months.
