Wayang Kulit
Wayang Kulit (Shadow Puppet Play) is a traditional Malay theatre that utilises light and shadow of puppets. It is said to originate from Jawa, whilst others cite Patani as the source. The performance is now very popular in Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu.\nA Wayang Kulit performance is usually conducted in the evening. The performance is led by a Tuk Dalang who maneuvers puppets behind a white screen (kelir). Tuk Dalang and the puppets are strategically positioned in front ofnthe light from a hanging light bulb or gasoline-fueled lamp. Thus, only shadows of the puppets are seen on the screen. Bjo: (Short Drum)
The smaller Bjo: or lwal- byaw is a double -headed drum and both of double - headed are beaten with a stickin a sling. It can be beaten with a stick. The Bjo: troupes are differently named after their distinct regions. Bjo: a double- headed drum and it is also a kind of percussion musical instrument. It has to be played together with a small drumcalled "Pa-loat". When these two drums are played together,it makes the sound of drumming or the sound like "Pa-lote-tote-tote-Byone". A bamboo is cut into four different sizes and they are joined one after another small to large and the top of bamboo pipes are inserted into mython horn. It has to be blown at the top of bamboo pipe to produce song. Vo Binh Dinh has a high performance and combat ability, expressed in the forms of movement with bare hands, sticks, swords and spears, great knives, axes and shields.
