Traditional Knowledge and Wisdom
-
In 2014, ICHCAP and the Pacific countries published Traditional Knowledge and Wisdom: Themes from the Pacific Islands as the outcome of a two-year project to raise the visibility of Pacific ICH and promote cooperation on ICH safeguarding within the sub-region. Six Pacific states participated in the project—Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Tonga, and Vanuatu. The publication stands out as a joint project by the sub-region rather than an independent initiative by individual states. The book is organized in five themes—Worldviews, Relationship and Social Cohesion, Harvest and Landscapes, Voyaging and Seascape, and Art and Technology. It captures intangible knowledge and wisdom in text and photographs, making it a valuable resource for ICH transmission. It has special significance in that it provides information about traditional knowledge and wisdom in the context of sustainable development.
