Description The Limbe is a side-blown wind instrument, mostly made of hard wood or bamboo. It is considered as one of the valuable traditional musical instruments among Mongolians for its unique technique and characteristics such as hidden tune associated with circular breathing, and its performing techniques of skilful and delicate movements of fingers and tongue. The "Circular breathing" is a great achievement of nomadic Mongolians derived from their creativity, result of the exploration and necessity of their daily life. The origin and development of circular breathing is closely bound up with the skills and knowledge of ancient craftsmen or metalsmiths who specialized in gold and silver. Early Mongolian craftsmen used circular breathing techniques for crafting various decorative and ornamental items including valuable jewelleries.
Social and cultural significance Limbe is one of the main instruments that perform unilaterally the melodies of the traditional folk long song or accompany its performance. While performing a folk long song, it is customary for Limbe performers to use the technique of circular breathing. The art of Circular breathing technique of the Limbe is an important part of cultural heritage to the bearers, the family tradition, the communities who practice this art and produce this musical instrument. It has a very high social and cultural functions that bring certain identity and pride among the communities. The "Folk long song performance technique of Limbe performers – Circular breathing" is a complex representation of technique and skill of performing with Limbe, which came to be considered as an art form through its centuries of continued development. Since the inscription of this element on the UNESCO List of Urgent Safeguarding of ICH, the public awareness and understanding have been increased nationwide. As ‘Limbe’ has old tradition to be performed during the customary events of livelihood and household including weddings and festive events, the custom of cutting the child's hair for the first time, Naadam festival (festival of three manly sports) and state honored events, it’s united with Mongolian tradition, psychology and language which became the foundation of collectivity, social group and tribes furthermore it is an inseparable part of daily life, really important factor of peaceful living.

Community In 2007, the “Mongolian Association of Limbe Performers” was established with the collaboration and support of apprentices and descendants of the late prominent Honored Limbe performer of Mongolia, L.Tserendorj, devoted individuals, art scholars and culture activists.
