Description | I come from a small village called Danyore. It lies across the river Gilgit in the outskirts of the regional Capital of Gilgit-Baltistan. My forefathers migrated to Danyor from Ali Abad Hunza and we are ethnically known as Burusho of Hunza. I feel very happy to share some aspects of our intangible heritage through photos I took on different occasions. I do not have all the photos with me as I live in Islamabad these days because I work at Lok Virsa, which works towards preservation, documentation and promotion of both tangible and intangible heritage of Pakistan. Here i am sharing few photos taken at facial hair removal practice. Its a common practice exercised by Burusho living throughout Gilgit Baltistan region of Pakistan. Babies facial hair are removed with wheat dough and a mixture of rock powder and mothers milk is applied later which is also cleaned for glowing skin with mother milk. It is believed that it reduces facial hair and makes skin glow when babies grow up. Rock stone that crushed into powder is locally known as 'MURDA SUN' I couldnt find english name of the stone. It can be easily crushed or turned into power when rubbed on surface of a stone. For babies facial mask it is mixed with mothers breast milk and applied on babies face. | ||
