Description This entry features photographs of individuals who are displaying their unique crafts creations with dignity, pride, and skill. These craft creations feature wood carving, weaving, painting, and sea shell necklace making which are unique to the artists' cultural and artistic traditions. Craftsmen and craftswomen from Samoa, Chuuk, Easter Islands, New Caledonia, Australia, Tuvalu, Palau display their creative skills, vibrant energy, dignity, and pride of craftsmenship. Through these photographs taken at the Guam 2016 Festival of the Pacific Arts, I strived to capture the human spirit that is reflected in people’s faces as they created these unique craft creations through wood carving, weaving, and sea shell necklace making. I have a passion for learning about different cultures and their histories and I have traveled throughout Europe and Asia. I was born and grew up in Germany and I’ve lived and worked in the U.S., Germany, Japan, Korea, Alaska, Panama, and now Guam. I was very excited to be part of the volunteer Guam 2016 Festival of the Pacific Arts Documentary Photography team and found this to be an unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime experience.
