| Description | 리예라아 제훈(liyelaa jehun)으로 알려진 칠기공예는 가장 독특한 형태의 수공예 중 하나이다. 단순하게 보자면 작은 나무조각에 원하는 모양을 조각해 여러 가지 색으로 겹겹이 옻칠을 한다. 여기에 마른 잎으로 광을 낸 다음 단순한 도구를 이용해 정교한 문양을 새겨 넣는다. 이때 미리 만들어 놓은 본은 사용하지 않는다. 많은 목제품이나 몰디브의 산호석 모스크에서 이러한 칠기 공예를 찾아 볼 수 있다. 유네스코 세계유산 임시목록에 등재되어 있는 몰디브의 유산 중 6개가 옻칠 장식이 되어 있으며 모두 탁월한 보편적 가치를 지닌 것들이다. | ||
