It is customary for the Kyrgyz people to show respect to elders, and to welcome the guests with a reverence. ‘Tabak tartuu’ is an indicator of social skills, manners, hospitality, and culture of respect for elders. In the distribution of pieces of meat, a certain etiquette is observed. There is a clear hierarchy that defines the role of each member of the family, from the elders to the youngest daughter-in-law. Exceptional importance was attached to the correct distribution of lamb parts, and it was approached very carefully.
To this day, in all regions of Kyrgyzstan, this custom is strictly adhered to, although there have been signs of petering out.
