Description	Ferghana-Tashkent maqoms got formed in ХVIII-ХIХ centuries on the basis of Shashmaqom (sarakhbor, tarona, savt, qashqarcha, soqiynoma, ufar) and musical traditions of the Ferghana Valley.Ferghana-Tashkent maqoms are a phenomenon which is unique and original in the system of maqomat (maqom art) of Uzbekistan, existence of which is associated with musical culture of the cities of the Ferghana Valley and Tashkent region in the form of separate instrumental and vocal samples and small cycles (from two to seven parts).Instrumental maqom cycles include: “Mushkiloti dugoh I-III”, “Ajam taronalari I-III”, “Chorgoh I-V”, “Miskin I-VII” and vocal maqom cycles include: “Nasrullo I-III”, “Chorgoh I-V”, “Bayot I-V”, “Bayot Sheroziy I-V”, “Shakhnoz-Gulyor I-V”, “Dugoh-Husayniy I-VII”.

Maqom is the system of melodic modes used in traditional music of eastern peoples. Maqom and maqomat (the science of maqom) is the phenomenon of spiritual culture of Cenral Asia and more generally of the people of the East. Though, its artistic and historical value can be felt much beyond the region, where it was widely spread. As a highly developed musical genre, throughout many centuries of its existence, it became a key component in defining the idea of classical music of the East. Maqom is art and philosophic belief, which encourages spiritual nourishment and self-perfection, contemplation and enjoyment of heavenly beauty, which is expressed through sounds of music and poetry. For the people of the East it became national artistic heritage, which in many ways reflects ethnic mentality. Maqomat of Uzbekistan, at present, includes maqom cycles of "Shashmaqom", "Khoresm maqoms", "Ferghana-Tashkent maqoms", local maqom cycles, instrumental and vocal maqom pieces as well as maqom pieces of bastakors (composers). Each of these has its own peculiarities and performance styles.

Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, 2008 Maqom is a complicated musical composition of many parts and governed by certain rules that developed over centuries. Uzbek maqoms have two parts: mushkilot (instrumental part) and nasr (song part). Maqom development in Uzbekistan is associated with state centers—Bukhara in Bukhara Emirates, Khiva in Khorezm Khanet, and Kokand in Kokand Khanet. These centers resulted in the formation of three maqom types, “Shashmaqom” (Bukhara), which includes six maqoms and “Khorezm maqoms” (Khorezm), which includes six-and-a-half maqoms. In Ferghana-Tashkent (Kokand), maqom cycles that contain four maqoms were edited by professional musicians of the palace. In this film, skilled musicians and students perform all three maqom cycles. Recording was conducted in Tashkent, Ferghana, Khorezm, and Bukhara and was enriched with interviews from maqom researchers and masters.
